“Jasperware” was originally developed by Josiah Wedgwood during the mid 1700’s. The Wedgwood company was one of the most innovative companies of its time and often its popular lines were copied by other potteries based in Staffordshire, England and in Europe. This particular piece is a late 19th Century German example, the company marking on it was one used by the Aelteste Volkstedter Porcelain works Circa 1894-1900.
Values for these pieces has not appreciated much in recent years, a result of online auctions and media coverage by Antique Roadshow events bringing a great number of jasperware items out of storage and into the market.
