The Artist Albert Ludovici, Jr, (B. 1852, D. 1932), was a member of British Royal Academy of Painters, Sculptors, Engravers, member of French school of painting, admirer of the impressionist style of Whistler, who also lived in Paris and did engravings. A. Ludovici Jr had written a book describing his love for coaching pictures and his painting of the Dickens coaching series.

His work was the basis of jigsaw puzzles and prints produced around 1910-11 by Raphael Tuck & Sons, Ltd., London, England , the puzzles listed as “Tuck’s Famous 16 Dickens Coaching ‘Zag-Zag’ Puzzles” after the originals by Albert Ludovici, Jr. and supplied in two sizes, 400 pieces (20″ x 12″) and 150 pieces (12″ x 7″). Raphael Tuck & Sons began operations in 1865. In December 1940 the firm’s premises, Raphael House, was destroyed in one of the biggest air raids of the Second World War on London and the records of seventy-four years of industry had vanished along with it.
